Alison Jacoby, MD

Alison Jacoby, MD
Director, Comprehensive Fibroid Center

Dr. Alison Jacoby is an obstetrician-gynecologist who founded the Comprehensive Fibroid Center to provide personalized patient care and effective treatment options to women with fibroids.

Soon after joining the UCSF faculty in 1997, she discovered her passion for fibroids and created one of the first clinical centers in the country devoted to helping women with fibroids. She has developed expertise in the latest medical and surgical techniques for treating fibroids. Her research focuses on new medical agents for fibroids and understanding the factors that contribute to women's decisions about their treatment.  Dr. Jacoby is a member of the University of California Fibroid Network, a state-wide collaboration to improve the care of women with fibroids through research, education, and collaborative clinical practice.

A Boston native, Dr. Jacoby graduated from Harvard Medical School and completed residency at Tufts-New England Medical Center. She is board-certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and a Fellow of the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.

Vanessa Jacoby, MD, MAS

Dr. Vanessa Jacoby is an obstetrician gynecologist who devotes her time to both research and patient care.  She is most interested in conducting research that provides women with fibroids the best possible scientific evidence to guide and inform their treatment decisions. Dr. Jacoby is the lead investigator for the University of California Fibroid Network, a state-wide collaboration to improve the care of women with fibroids through research, education, and collaborative clinical practice.

Dr. Jacoby graduated from the University of California, San Francisco Medical School where she also completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology and a Masters Degree in Clinical Research. She is board-certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and a Fellow of the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.

 

Jeannette Lager, MD, MPH

Dr. Jeannette Lager is an obstetrician gynecologist who brings her expertise in minimally invasive approaches to caring for women with abnormal uterine bleeding and fibroids to the team. Dr. Lager believes that educating patients on a variety of treatment options enables them to make the best possible decision for the management of fibroid care. She loves to collaborate with our interdisciplinary team to provide personalized care.  Dr. Lager is an investigator for the University of California Fibroid Network, a state-wide collaboration to improve the care of women with fibroids through research, education, and collaborative clinical practice.

Dr. Lager is a graduate of the University of Minnesota Medical School and the Obstetrics and Gynecology residency at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. She is board-certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and a Fellow of the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.

Jessica Opoku-Anane, MD

Jessica Opoku-Anane, MD, MS

Dr. Jessica Opoku-Anane is a fellowship-trained minimally invasive gynecologist. She is a specialist in the treatment of fibroids, abnormal uterine bleeding, pelvic pain, alternatives to hysterectomy, and advanced gynecologic surgery. Her thoughtful approach to patients and individualized treatment plans allow her to provide exceptional care that addresses the needs of all patients. In particular, she strives to provide a minimally invasive approach to her patients’ needs whenever possible.

Dr. Opoku-Anane obtained her medical degree from Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and went on to complete a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Harvard Brigham & Women’s and Massachusetts General Hospitals. She received several awards, including the prestigious American Association of Laparoscopic Gynecologists (AAGL) award for excellence in laparoscopic surgery. She subsequently completed an additional AAGL fellowship in advanced minimally invasive gynecologic surgery (MIGS) at George Washington University.

In addition to her clinical activities, she has been active in research and spent two years with the National Institutes of Health (NIH) both locally and in sub-Saharan Africa. . She is board-certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and a fellow of the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.

Faculty in the Division of Interventional Radiology have been performing uterine artery embolization at UCSF since 1998. They have extensive clinical experience and enjoy helping women overcome their fibroid problems.
